Penn State Fencing Season Begins This Weekend at the North American Cup

Four-day long tournament will count towards Olympic qualifications

 

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; October 7, 2015 – The Penn State Nittany Lion fencing team will spend homecoming weekend in Richmond, Va. competing in its first competition of the 2015-16 season. The results of the North American Cup will count towards the fencers’ 2016 Olympic qualifications.

 

In total, Penn State will be sending 35 fencers to the four-day long competition. The event will run from Friday, Oct. 9 – Monday, Oct. 12.

 

Each day of the competition features a different fencing event.

 

Friday’s bouts will be for men’s sabre.

 

Saturday’s and Sunday’s competition will be split between foil and epee, with men’s foil and women’s epee on Saturday and men’s epee and women’s foil on Sunday.

 

The tournament will finish Monday with women’s sabre.

 

The Penn State fencers will be competing as follows:

 

FRIDAY: Men’s Sabre

 Senior Adam Lewicki (Oakland, N.J.); sophomores Eduardo Azueta (Queretaro, Mexico), Khalil Thompson (Teaneck, N.J.) and Jarrett Lewis (Montclair, N.J.); freshmen Bradley Devito (Ridgefield, Conn.), Karol Metryka (Linden, N.J.), Gavin Turner (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Marcel Dolegiewicz (Park Ridge, Ill.).

 

SATURDAY: Men’s Foil / Women’s Epee

 Seniors Nobuo Bravo (San Fransisco, Calif.) and Jessica O’Neil-Lyublinsky (North Salem, N.Y.); juniors Howie Chan (Walnut, Calif.), Nicolas Graziano (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Jessie Randanovich-Gottesman (Tollhouse, Calif.); sophomores Stephen Barnett (Clinton, Conn.) and Julia Higson (State College, Pa.); freshmen Richard Cho (Seoul, South Korea), Julian Fevry (St. Albans, N.Y.), Ethan Gumagay (Vienna, Va.), Anastasia Kalonji (Rennes, France), Medora McCarthy (Los Altos Hills, Calif.) and Alissa Hoffman (Cambridge, Mass.).

 

SUNDAY: Men’s Epee / Women’s Foil

MONDAY: Women’s Sabre
